It ain‘t what you teach – Teaching Learning Strategies with Rachael Harris

The more I teach the more I have realized how important successful learning strategies are for creating successful learners. Before we even think about what vocabulary or grammar we want our students to learn, we need to look at how they will learn. This is even more important for students with learning difficulties. During this workshop we will look at a variety of learning strategies used for skills as well as learning vocabulary, keeping up motivation, dealing with evaluations and using learning journals. Participants will share ideas and methods and come away with concrete strategies to teach in class.

Rachael Harris is Special Education Needs coordinator and teacher of ELT, literature, and Media studies to primary and secondary students in Geneva. She is also joint coordinator of IATEFL Inclusive Practices & SEN SIG and has published various materials in these fields, including participating in the writing of Activities for Inclusive Language Teaching from the Delta Ideas in Action series. Rachael is passionate about discovering how all learners learn best. In her free time, she loves learning, reading, running, travelling and connecting with people.
