Presentation skills: confidence building – strategies for us and our students with Rachel Appleby

Many of us have to give formal talks or presentations, to a large, or small group – or even just to one person to ‘sell’ a great idea. Most people find this challenge nerve-wracking – in their own, not least in a second language!

In this workshop, we’ll look at how we can gain in confidence ourselves, as well as how we can help our students to become more confident in delivering a clear and bold message.

To do this, I’ll focus on three case studies – three very different one:one clients – and discuss their needs and difficulties. Most of my clients are acutely aware of what they can do in L1 but cannot do in English, and each one expresses specific needs.

I’ll also be engaging participants throughout to promote exchange and discussion of ideas. We’ll look at hooks and tools to help us and our students not just survive, but succeed and enjoy the experience!

Biodata:

Rachel teaches 1:1 and groups on-/offline throughout Europe: adults and professionals, BE and EAP. She is a CELTA and LCCI trainer, and regularly works in staff development at Hungarian universities. She also runs various face-to-face training courses in Central Europe for university staff through Euroexam International. She has (co-) written a range of Adult/BE materials for OUP & Macmillan.
